Evolve Field Management System
App Design, Product Design
2023

The Problem
Inefficient field management results in low productivity, higher operational costs, and diminished customer satisfaction. To address these challenges, effective communication between managers and technicians is essential, and needs to be improved.
Goals
Our primary goals were to improve communication between managers and technicians, elevate customer satisfaction, increase real-time visibility and control over field activities, and streamline operations by automating manual tasks and reducing paperwork.
Key Features
After assessing the challenges and objectives, I identified several key features to enhance the app's functionality.

Dual Apps for Admins & Technicians
2 specialized apps, each designed to meet the unique needs of its user. The Admin app will provide comprehensive control over customer management, task assignments, and technician tracking. The Technician app will focus on receiving tasks, communicating with admins, and updating task statuses in real-time.
Live Tracking of Technicians
Enable real-time tracking of technicians' locations and activities, giving administrators a live view of their field workforce. This feature allows for efficient resource allocation and informed decision-making, ensuring optimal field operations.

Work Order Creation
Empower technicians to create work orders directly from their app, capturing essential details on-site. This feature enhances efficiency by allowing technicians to document new jobs or additional work needed, ensuring nothing is overlooked.
Chat Between Admin & Technician
Enhance collaboration with an integrated chat feature that enables instant communication between administrators and technicians. This tool allows for quick information exchange, real-time updates, and efficient resolution of any concerns or queries.

My Process
My process began with identifying and defining the problems within current field management systems. I then conducted research, referencing other apps to explore potential solutions. Based on this research, I ideated and sketched out initial concepts translated into low-fidelity prototypes. These prototypes were refined into high-fidelity designs using Figma. The designs were then reviewed with the client & manager for feedback, and finally, the completed designs were handed off to the development team for implementation.
Design
In the initial phase of the interface design process, I outlined the key screens of the application and sketched my ideas on paper. These sketches were then presented to stakeholders for feedback. After receiving constructive input and approval, the sketches served as the foundation for developing high-fidelity designs

Takeaways & Retrospective
Through this project, I gained invaluable experience and a deeper understanding of the full-time role. As the sole UI Designer, managing the entire Product Design process on my own was challenging, yet it proved to be a rewarding and interesting endeavor. I also faced hurdles when handing off designs to developers, but these challenges taught me important lessons that I’ve since applied to future projects.
